Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, this study of boats and their occupants lacks any topographical framework, but was probably made in the Pool of London, on the River Thames below Old London Bridge. More than half the drawings in this sketchbook were made in that vicinity, and are likely to date from 1824; see the Introduction.
