From the entry
These watercolours, comprising both colour studies for finished works and, probably, unfinished works were made in the studio in the years following Turner’s tour to France and Switzerland in 1802. Generally they are based on sketchbook material from the tour. An ink outline, D08218; Turner Bequest CXX E, is placed with them as it also a Swiss subject derived from the 1802 tour. Two works included by Finberg in the LXXX group are excluded here. Tate D04894; LXXX A, despite its inscription ‘Voreppe’, is a Scottish subject dating from 1801. Tate D04900; Turner Bequest LXXX G will be found under Exhibition Watercolours, 1804–15.
