With the page turned vertically, Turner has made studies of sheep lying down; across the middle of the page he integrates them into a wooded landscape with a note apparently reading ‘Richmond Eyte’, presumably a phonetic attempt at ait or eyot and probably referring to what is now called Corporation Island, in the River Thames just north of Richmond Bridge; compare the views on folio 3 verso (D17841).
