- Sketchbooks of Marie-Louise von Motesiczky
- Date
- 1920s–1990s
- Description
- Contains 98 sketchbooks dated from between 1920-1990s. Many sketchbooks contain preparatory sketches for Marie-Louise von Motesiczky's paintings, including 'Still-life with Globe [Stilleben mit Globus]', 1953, 'Mother with Straw', 1962, and 'From Night into Day (Von der Nacht in den Tag)', 1975. Most of the sketchbooks are undated with only a few dated using information surrounding some of the sketches of Miriam Rothschild, Elias Canetti or her own self-portraits. The sketchbooks mostly contain studies of still lifes, sketches of landscapes, often alpine, portraits of her friends, a few self-portraits, sketches of figures doing various activities and many studies of her mother Henriette von Motesiczky. Some of her sketches also depict scenes at the beach, in shops or other interiors.
