After the success of our first Mr Bongo event at the @tatecornerbar, we’re hosting a Record Store Day special with none other than @patrickforge.
Who better to embody the spirit of the Mr Bongo Record Club series, than Patrick. A man who has spent a lifetime involved in music as a DJ, broadcaster and compiler. Famed for his Dingwalls residency with Gilles Peterson and Talkin Loud at The Fridge, alongside his long-running The Cosmic Jam show on Kiss FM. A connoisseur of jazz dance, rare groove, Brazilian and everything in between, he’s the DJs’ DJ and we’re delighted to have him play this event. Mr Bongo resident DJs will be joining Patrick behind the decks, and @deyabrewery are on tap with a special record store day lineup.
The Mr Bongo Record Club compilation series is fast developing a cult-following. With instantly recognisable covers and a sublime selection of tracks within, they are a perfect representation of what this iconic label do best; sharing musical discoveries and treasured classics from a global stage. Having reached release number seven in the series, it was decided that now was the time to launch a dedicated party in London to celebrate all things Record Club.
They will be digging deep into their record collections, cherry-picking finds from their travels across the world, championing tracks that have hit a high-note at their DJ gigs, and those that they’ve fallen in love with at their Brighton store. Just like the Record Club compilations themselves, you’ll be served an eclectic, all vinyl, international soundtrack packed with some of the finest music out there.

It began in Venezuela 34 years ago, filling suitcases with amazing Latin records to bring back to Europe, and it has continued ever since; warehouse visits in the US, dusty basements in South America, garages in Africa, and secret spots in Europe and Asia. Through the label and our record shops, Mr Bongo unearth a seemingly bottomless selection of classic and contemporary Brazilian, Latin, African, jazz, soul, reggae and psychedelic flavours. Keeping the world spinning since 1989!
