Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, this slight profile of the Apennine Mountains features a road curving into the foreground. While a precise location is difficult to pinpoint, Turner was possibly travelling along the Chienti Valley in Umbria, north-east of Foligno, which is likely the subject of folio 13 recto and verso (D14855–D14856).
