Turner oriented the sketchbook vertically to produce these three slight studies, which likely depict Umbrian landscapes. The upper view features a hilltop town with a tower towards the right. Below is a detail of a spire, with an illegible inscription to the right. The study beneath traces the peaks of the Apennines, with buildings perched on the summit to the left. The two words beneath are largely illegible, although one may refer to Foligno in the province of Perugia. The lower view possibly depicts Foligno nestled in a valley, with the dome of the Cathedral of San Feliciano to the right.
