In the lower section of this page, executed with the sketchbook turned vertically, are two rough profiles of central Rome, identified in Finberg’s 1909 Inventory of the Bequest as the Capitoline Hill.1 Turner used the upper half of the page to note down weekdays in Italian, some of which are linked to numbers, perhaps concerning his expenditure:
Lunedi –––– 30
Martedi ––– –
Mercoldi [sic] – 40
Giovedi –– 20
Venerdi –– [...]
This list is partly overwritten with a further inscription, partly illegible and upside down, which appears to read ‘Sale of Fl[...]’.
