This sketch, with the page turned horizontally, has been identified by geographer and Turner researcher Maurice Guillaud as a view of the seventeenth-century Chapelle of Saint-Hospice on the peninsula of Cap Ferrat between Nice and Villefranche-sur-Mer.1 The prospect has been taken from the coastline to the north, and Maurice Guillaud believed that the artist’s viewpoint was a location near the Baie des Fourmis (Bay of Ants) near Beaulieu-sur-Mer.2
