On this page Turner has used blue and grey paint and reserved blank areas of white paper to evoke clouds passing over an undulating rural landscape. There is a track of some kind curving out of sight on the left-hand side of the page and what looks to be a hedgerow that begins facing the viewer in the foreground and extends round to form a rippled line that runs along the majority of the background.
See the sketchbook’s Introduction for general notes on possible locations and dating.
Technical notes:
Irregular staining is evident along the right-hand edges of the leaf, possibly sustained in the 1928 Tate Gallery flood. Looking at the upper left of the leaf, it appears that the blue and grey paint Turner used to represent the rain cloud stained the verso of folio 7 opposite (D12455).

Blank
