On this page Turner has reserved blank areas of white paper to evoke a broad bank of clouds gathered above a sandy beach. In the lower half of the composition sand dunes covered in what might be marram grass stretch into the distance on the left with the sea mirroring them on the right-hand edge of the sheet. Between the sand dunes and the shoreline there is a small cluster of blue lines and dots: it is difficult to discern if these marks are supposed to represent something, and if so, what.

Technical notes:
Irregular staining is evident along the edges of the leaf, possibly sustained in the 1928 Tate Gallery flood.
