In the foreground of this faint sketch, running along the bottom of the sheet, is a row of houses. In the distance to the right a range of hills slope gently down to the river on the left. A number of brief marks in pencil and chalk describe the water’s edge.

Technical notes:
This sketch appears on one half of a large sheet bisected by the faint line of a fold; this half measures 140 x 193mm. On the other half is D20553 (CCXXIV 236).
