From the left, receding into the centre is a line of trees, the strong diagonal line at the base of them suggests a road or pathway. A number of fluid lines drawn below the trees signal their reflection on water. In the background to the right is a series of arches indicating a bridge and the course of this river. Two hills appear in the distance to the left.

Technical notes:
This sketch appears on one half of a large sheet bisected by the faint line of a fold; this half measures 142 x 192mm. On the other half is D20554 (CCXXIV 237).
