Among the details of this brief chalk and pencil sketch is a house with a door to the right, behind which is a tree. Marks in the foreground suggest vegetation. To the right are two hills, whose downward slopes are signalled by a few curved and diagonal lines.
For the grouping and dating of these works, see the section Introduction.
Technical note:
The sketch, measuring 140 x 190 mm, appears on one half of a sheet of blue wove paper; the other half is blank except for the pencil inscription ‘235 | O’ upside down at the top left relative to the present half. There is a long tear of around 50 mm in the bottom left of the sheet. Running diagonally across the right of the sheet is a discoloured crease.
Verso:
Blank except for inscription. Inscribed in ink ‘191’ bottom right.
