Stamped in black ‘CCXXIV 49’ bottom right
Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
A series of pencil marks run along the middle of the sheet describing a horizon. To the right of the centre a more complex form suggests the depiction of some type of vegetation.
For the grouping and dating of these works, see the section Introduction.
Technical notes:
The sheet has suffered water damage, likely a result of the 1928 Tate Gallery flood. This damage has buckled the paper and an inscription in ink in the bottom right of the verso is illegible.
Verso:
Blank except for inscriptions. Inscribed in pencil ‘49’ top left. Inscribed in pencil ‘CCXXIV 49’ and ‘53 | O’ bottom right.
