This is a detail of Ingleborough as seen from the south-west. The same aspect of Ingleborough appears in several sketches, on folios 58 recto and 68 verso (D11124, D11140) in the present sketchbook, and Tate D11467 and D11472 (Turner Bequest CXLVII 16a, 19a) in the Yorkshire 4 book; D11467 is particularly close.
The present author has dated Turner’s sketches in the Ingleton area to Saturday 10 August 1816.1 This sketch, made with the page turned horizontally, is upside-down in relation to the main sequence (see the sketchbook’s Introduction).
