The date and occasion of this pencil study of the quayside at Saint-Cloud with details picked out in chalk are not known. However, Turner specialist Ian Warrell has speculated that it may record an otherwise undocumented expedition from nearby Paris during the 1826 tour.1 See the Introduction to this section for a list of comparable studies of this site.

The sheet is attached to D20493 (Turner Bequest CCXXIV 184) along the bottom edge, from which it is divided by a horizontal crease.
