The date and occasion of this slight pencil sketch of the riverbank at Saint-Cloud are not known. However, Turner specialist Ian Warrell has speculated that it may record an otherwise undocumented expedition from nearby Paris during the 1826 tour.1 See the Introduction to this section for a list of comparable studies of this site.

Technical Notes:
The sheet is attached to D20481 (Turner Bequest CCXXIV 175) along the bottom edge, from which it is divided by a horizontal crease.
Verso:
The sheet bears John Ruskin’s red ink note ‘176’ in the bottom right-hand corner. It bears a brown stain with darker spots along the right-hand edge.
