With the sketchbook turned vertically, Turner filled this page with a street scene with a gothic tower and onion dome rising up beyond. Art historian Maurice Guillaud has proposed that the drawing was made in Évreux in Normandy although the architectural details recorded here do not accord with the cathedral in that city in its current state.1
