With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled the upper half of this page with an interior study of the gothic Church of Saint-Julien in Tours. This is one of a number of pages featuring the architecture of this building in this volume, a list of which is provided in the sketchbook introduction. A drawing of a ‘diligence’, or stagecoach, is included at the centre of the page.
