Turner filled this page with studies of the riverside settlement of Ancenis, some twenty miles upstream of Nantes in the Loire valley. The fortifications of the medieval castle can be clearly seen at the centre of the top edge of the page. There are several pages of studies of Ancenis in this volume. A list of these is provided in the sketchbook introduction.
