With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled the upper half of this page with studies of the coastal terrain around the Bay of Morlaix in Brittany. Amongst the subjects depicted, Tate curator Ian Warrell has identified the Penn-al-Lann Peninsula, the Ile Louêt, and the Château de Taureau as seen from near the settlement of Locquénolé.1
