This faint drawing, unusual among Turner’s blue paper studies in being largely in pencil, seems to be a scene of recreational visitors to a beach (see the Introduction for other examples), with women in bonnets and a man in a tall hat. Another figure stoops, possibly to attend to a small child. Beyond is the profile of a low cliff or perhaps sand dunes.
There is a pencil drawing of a ship on the verso (D40112).
