With the page turned horizontally, boats are seen in the foreground on a broad river, with buildings and trees on the bank beyond. One occupant of the boats appears to have raised an umbrella or parasol. The waterside scene on folio 2 recto opposite (D22559) is presumably related. The only other rural views identified in this sketchbook show Surrey (see the Introduction).
