This loose sketch only occupies the right-hand half of the horizontally turned page, giving a vignette effect in its focus on the horizontal line of the road through the trunks in the foreground. The setting, in common with identified sites in this sketchbook, is presumably South Devon. The subjects as far as folio 127 recto (D09358) are all identified or presumed sites within a few miles in and around Plymouth, suggesting a series of fairly short excursions.
