The first figure, £2283 nine shillings and three pence, referring to Reduced (‘R’) stocks, occurs elsewhere on folios 13 recto opposite and 15 recto (D08303, D08307) and on the separate sheet of calculations associated with this sketchbook (D40900; [Turner Bequest CXXII (4) verso]), as well as in the Hastings sketchbook (Tate D07670, D07683, D07685; Turner Bequest CXI 49, 57a, 58a). Further down, ‘2633 9 3’ is comparable with the figure ‘2633’ (i.e. in pounds alone) on folio 15 recto (D08307). The figure for Navy (‘N’) stocks, £4406 eight shillings and ten pence, appears again on folios 13 recto and verso and 14 recto and verso (D08303–D08306) and in the Hastings sketchbook (Tate D07670; Turner Bequest CXI 49).
The figure of £1000 in Consols (‘C’; i.e. consolidated stocks) appears again on folio 13 recto (D08303); the same figure noted on folio 36 (D08303) and in the Hastings book (Tate D07682; Turner Bequest CXI 57) may relate to different transactions. The amount of £260 dated 16 June 1813 appears with the same date on folio 14 recto (D08305) and undated in a sum on folio 15 recto (D08307), while ‘400’ may relate to a figure in the Hastings book concerning a payment or debt owed by Sir John Leicester (Tate D07671; Turner Bequest CXI 50); see also D40900. For more on Turner’s finances as set out in the extensive notes in this sketchbook, see the Introduction.
