This is a small thumbnail study of a dramatic cloud effect, with various colour notes, now hard to read as the page is badly rubbed. The subject is similar to a study of sky over Hawksworth Moor in the Scarborough 2 sketchbook (Tate D11973; Turner Bequest CLI 18a) and the two sketches were possibly made on the same occasion. There are possibly other small drawings above the main sketch, all but completely erased.
