This sketch records a view of Scarborough Castle seen to the right of a headland, evidently at some distance south, possibly as far as Osgodby Point. Turner, however, has very much shortened the castle headland, making it hard to work out the exact orientation.
A small piece is missing from the outer edge of this leaf. See notes to the recto (D11956; Turner Bequest CLI 5) for its removal from and reinstatement in the sketchbook.
