This sketch records the view from high ground above the Malton and York road looking north-east across the Weaponness Valley, over Scarborough Mere to Oliver’s Mount. Another sketch in the same sequence (D11940; Turner Bequest CL 21) records the view a little further along the road towards Scarborough, and yet another (D11932; Turner Bequest CL 15) one further away towards Seamer. Both were probably made in sequence with the present sketch.
