This sketch records the view from below the southernmost tip of the ward of Scarborough Castle, looking down on the outer and lighthouse jetties with part of the castle wall descending steeply to the harbour from the top right. In the distance can be seen the coast stretching southwards towards Filey Brigg. The sketch records similar material to another in this sequence (D11925; Turner Bequest CL 9) but from a more southerly position.
The verso (D11922) is Turner Bequest CL 7, and stamped as such. On the evidence of the inscription this was presumably one of the originally detached leaves noted by Finberg (see sketchbook Introduction), and at some stage has perhaps been replaced in the book in a reversed orientation.
