Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
This folio is made of a much heavier paper than those following. It has been badly torn at the left and subsequently repaired and bound into the book reversed, with the Turner Bequest stamp now presented on the verso, here (the other side, currently bound as the recto, is blank). This is no doubt correct, since splashes of watercolour appear to the right, and have clearly spread from a sheet formerly opposite but now removed. This sheet was probably the original inside front cover, and the light greyish stain that appears on both sides was perhaps caused by the paste with which it was affixed.
