This study in blue watercolour of a sky is half of an image, the other part of which is bound in the Mortlake and Pulborough sketchbook. There are two further watercolour sky studies in the Paris, Seine and Dieppe sketchbook (Tate D18529 and D18530; Turner Bequest CCXI 3, 4), which the present image can therefore be associated with.
The recto is D25519 (Turner Bequest CCLXIII a 4).
