In this sketch, a large building is silhouetted against the light beyond a stand of trees. The subject might seem related in spirit to Turner’s designs for his Liber Studiorum compositions of landscape1 or to his studies on the Thames,2 but the exact locality here has yet to be identified. For general notes on the series of unidentified subjects to which this sketch belongs see folio 2 recto (D11597).
