This is the right part of a double-page spread continued from folio 14 verso (D11595; Turner Bequest CXLVIII 42, now bound opposite), showing the view north-west from the deer park of Dallam Tower, looking over the house to the Kent Estuary, with Whitbarrow Scar in the left distance, and Coniston Old Man at the extreme left and Kirkstone Fell dominating the centre distance. A sketch in the Yorkshire 4 sketchbook (D11499–D11500; Turner Bequest CXLVII 35a–36) shows much the same view across the Kent sands as seen from the shore. The present writer has dated these sketches to Monday 5 August 1816. See notes to D11595 for Dallam Tower.
Finberg treated this drawing as part of a double-page spread with D11528 (Turner Bequest CXLVIII 5a, now bound as folio 4 verso) but the correct association with D11595 had been noticed and the book rebound accordingly, prior to the present writer’s 1984 book.
