This sketch is one of a series of interior views of the Duomo (cathedral) of Parma, see folios 9 verso–10 verso (D16658–D16660). Turner’s study is very rough and schematic but the view appears to look from one of the side aisles of the nave, up the steps of the altar towards the crossing of the Duomo. The latter is identifiable from the circular windows which encircle the drum of the dome.
