Inscribed, perhaps by Turner, in ink ‘69’
 
Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
The label is worn away, with a slight loss to the inscription, where it was formerly wrapped round a little way onto the front cover. ‘14’ is inscribed by an early hand in ink on the spine itself, above the label when the book is viewed upright.
