Here Turner looks west from beside Forthburn Beck below the south side of the house (since demolished), towards the bridge, which still stands. The drawing continues across half of folio 4 verso opposite (D12315; CLVI 31a), showing the south bank of the stream. There are further double-page drawings of Streatlam on folios 3 verso–4 recto and 5 verso–6 recto (D12313, D12314, D12317, D12264; CLVI 30a–31, 32a–3). Technical notes:
The pencil number ‘32’ may obscure or reinforce John Ruskin’s customary red ink foliation, which is evident only faintly and intermittently in this much-rearranged book (see the introduction to the sketchbook).
