For Turner’s visit to Tabley in 1808, see Introduction to the sketchbook, and for a series of sketches probably of the estate and the lake or Moat, note to folio 12 (D06994; Turner Bequest CV 10). The same bridge appears on folio 15 D06690; Turner Bequest CV 14). It seems to have only one arch and so may not be the bridge to the island on which stood the Old Hall and St Peter’s Chapel, for which see note to folio 4 (D06987).
