This general view shows, from left, Christ Church, St Mary’s, the Radcliffe Camera and Merton College. For Turner’s Oxford views in this sketchbook, beginning on Magdalen Bridge, see the Introduction to this sketchbook. Colin Harrison notes that Turner’s route seems then to have crossed to the fields on the south side of the London Road, from where he took this sketch, and up Headington Hill before descending again to Magdalen Bridge.
