The subject has not been identified but may be in the Rhine valley along which Turner returned towards France. See folio 1 of this sketchbook (D04736) for a view of Bad Säckingen just under twenty miles upstream from Basle and folio 6 for one probably of St Chrischona between the city and Rheinfelden. Folios 4, 5 and 7 (D04739, D04740, D04742) have similar and perhaps related sketches.
