Standing on Bell Street by Western Quay in North Shields, this view (continued on folio 4; D13466) looks east along the quay and the north shore of the River Tyne. The town’s two harbour lights are its distinguishing features and the High Light is shown at the right of the current page, with the Low Light at the left of the continuing page. In the distance on folio 4 is Tynemouth Priory.
See folio 13 for more information about Turner’s visit to North and South Shields and references to his other sketches.
