Probably a left-hand page from the sketchbook.
This drawing was used for the first of Turner’s two watercolours of Ashburnham Place, made for John Fuller in 1810 (University of Liverpool)1 and aquatinted by Joseph Stadler for Four Large Coloured Views in Sussex published circa 1818. See the Vale of Heathfield sketchbook (Tate D10311–D10313; Turner Bequest CXXXVII 68–69) for the origin of the later Vale of Ashburnham (British Museum, London).2
The Ashburnham estates adjoined Fuller’s which in this view lie in the far distance to the left. As well as Ashburnham Place, the view takes in Broad Water in the parkland in front of the house and St Peter’s Church to its left.
