Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
A pencil annotation by Edward Croft-Murray to a copy of Finberg in Tate’s Library confirms that the subject is ‘Definitely Pevensey’. Turner shows the west wall running from the North Tower to the gatehouse, with the moat below. Further away on the right is the nearby village of Westham, with St Mary’s Church.
