Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Turner has indicated a cloudy sky, and boats and figures in the foreground. The Wick had been built for Lady St Aubyn in 1775 and Wick House for the painter Sir Joshua Reynolds in 1771. This sketch continues, to include Richmond Bridge, designed by James Paine and opened in 1777, on folio 19 of the sketchbook (D05516). A similar view, worked up with more detail than these rather summary outlines, is on folio 33 (D05539).
