Robert Bevan with Hunting Dogs near Tangier, Morocco c.1892–3
Robert Bevan visited Tangier in Morocco over the period of 1892–3. Although the area was a famous artists’ haunt, Bevan spent more time hunting than painting. In this photograph the artist, standing alongside a pack of dogs possibly eating out of a trough, is wearing a typical hunting outfit and holding a whip. Bevan was the Master of Fox Hounds in Tangier by the summer of 1892. There are eighteen other photographs of Bevan in Tangier in Tate Archive (TGA 9210/5/2). See also TGA 9210/3/6, TGA 9210/5/3 and TGA 9210/5/4.
