In the upper half of this page is a slight mountain study, inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation. The buildings of a town or village are clustered in the foreground, some of which are accentuated with particularly heavy pencil lines. A precise location is difficult to confirm, although the subject is presumably a stretch of the central Apennine Mountains in Umbria, perhaps near Terni. Beneath, oriented at a right-angle and executed with the sketchbook turned vertically, is an outline of a river or reservoir, likely along the Tiber. The body of water outlined on folio 8 verso opposite (D21846) is possibly the same site.
