Turner oriented the sketchbook vertically to produce these two studies of mountainous landscapes, both of which are too cursory to identify. The upper view is littered with assorted notes, numbers and colour annotations. In the upper section is the inscription ‘95 90 G[?uinea] – Blu’. Further inscriptions follow beneath, some of which are only partly legible, including ‘10 5 [?yds] | White House | Road | m[...] | Road S[...]’. Beneath, unannotated, is a minor study of mountains with foliage in the foreground.
