This is one of several sketches made on the next leg of his journey, to Chalon-sur-Saône; see also folios 21, 23 and 24 (D04413, D04415, D04416). Turner’s inscription, meaning ‘Ditto’, refers to the last of these which he labelled ‘Pass above Autun’.
