This view of a long stretch of coastline to east and west of Margate drawn across the top of the leaf continues on folio 11 (D06513), which also has a closer and more detailed sketch of vessels and a man-of-war dressed with flags in front of cliffs. Folio 11 was given as ‘page 87’ by Finberg who noted that it was ‘found unnumbered’ (by John Ruskin). Its insertion in the reconstituted sketchbook to align with the present leaf is noted by Edward Croft-Murray in a copy of Finberg in Tate’s Library.
