Turner’s viewpoint for this sketch of Florence from Fiesole appears to be the convent of San Francesco to the west of the town. The composition continues on the opposite sheet of the double-page spread with the distant silhouette of the Duomo and the rest of the city, see folio 74 verso (D16609). Visible on this side however is Fiesole itself, with the campanile of the cathedral.
For a fuller description and further studies from Fiesole see folio 30 verso (D16542).
